Jim and Carol Cornett have known each other for more than 50 years but married just four years ago after reconnecting. After serving in the Navy for four years and then working for the federal government, Jim had to retire early due to several medical conditions and is now on a limited income. Carol was a school teacher in Prince William County and is now also retired.
Both native Virginians, they recently moved into a one-level Manassas home because navigating stairs is unsafe for Jim as he’s had several falls. This winter has been rough for them due to very high electric bills along with other expenses stemming from Jim’s medical needs.
Habitat is weatherizing the Cornett’s home to bring down their heating costs plus make needed accessibility modifications to ensure a safer environment.
