The Manassas Rotary Club held the “Friends of Lou Maroon 26th Annual Golf Celebration” on September 9, 2019, at the Evergreen Country Club in Haymarket, Virginia. The tournament was highly successful, raising $38,000. The first $10,000 raised supports four scholarships that the Club gives to high school seniors from Osbourn, Osbourn Park, Stonewall Jackson and Manassas Park High Schools. Habitat for Humanity Prince William County was grateful to be named the recipient of the remainder of the funds to supports its home ownership and home repair programs in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park.
The Tournament is posthumously named for Lou Maroon, a long-time resident of Manassas, businessman, member of the Manassas School Board, City Council and Manassas Rotary Club. Eighty-eight golfers convened on the course for a noon Shotgun Start. When the tournament ended, the golfers gathered for dinner, raffles and awards.
Mike Pybus, Jim Wirth and Doug French were on the winning team. Mike Harris was the closest to par on Hole #11. Angela Dellinger and Dave Beadner were the women’s and men’s winners of the Longest Drives on Holes #1 and 18, respectively. Mark Harris won the Putting Contest.
