#GivingTuesday is November 27, 2018. This year we are raising funds to help a family become a homeowner. Families are in the application process and one family will be chosen to own a home on Old Hickory Court in Manassas. The funds will be used to rehab the home in partnership with volunteers and the family.
There are many benefits to becoming a homeowner through Habitat for Humanity. Families purchase the home with an affordable mortgage. They receive financial education. They get on the job training on home maintenance when they rehab their home to earn “sweat equity.” And, they achieve a sense of security, knowing that the home is theirs. They get to make all the decisions. They don’t have to continue moving because rents are rising, the neighborhood is no longer suitable or the landlord has asked them to move. And, when a family signs the paperwork and receives the keys to their home, there’s an overwhelming sense of joy…and not just for the family…we all get to celebrate!
We’ve set a goal to raise $5,000 on #GivingTuesday. $5,000 will cover the cost of replacing the HVAC unit.
